A VERY PERSONAL MATTER
On 11 January 1985, at the age of 75 years, Mr Miguel Elizalde Biada (1910 – 2006) The Elizalde Foundation was set up in Barcelona with the aim of paying tribute to the company ELIZALDE, S.A., a pioneer in the manufacture of automobiles in Spain in its first stage (1914-1914). – 1925) and later in aircraft engine manufacture (1925 – 1951).
Miguel Elizalde, the son of Mr Arturo Elizalde Rouvier (1871 – 1925) – the founder of the Elizalde car manufacturing company– and Ms Carmen Biada Navarro (1875 – 1949) –continuation of her husband’s work and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of ELIZALDE, S.A. for almost 25 years. (1925 – 1949)– Miguel Elizalde dedicated his whole life to the motor industry.
Miguel Elizalde was a family man who felt very deeply about his roots. A Doctor in Industrial Engineering, an Aeronautical Engineer and a Colonel in the Air Force, he held different positions of responsibility in the ELIZALDE, S.A. company and also sat on its Board of Directors.
In 1991, his son Mr Julio Elizalde Barraquer took over as Chairman of the Foundation, a position held from 2013 onwards by his grandson, Mr Antonio Capella Elizalde.

PROTECTING AND DISSEMINATING A GREAT HISTORY
The Fundación Elizalde was conceived with a view to studying, preserving and disseminating the contribution made by the ELIZALDE company to technological development in mechanical engineering applied to the automotive industry and to aircraft engines as of 1914 (the first prototype of the Biada, Elizalde y Cía. vehicle) through to 1951 when the company was nationalised and was renamed the Empresa Nacional de Motores de Aviación, S.A. (ENMASA).
SHARING AN EDUCATIONAL
AND ENTREPRENEURIAL LEGACY
Between 1940 and 1960, the Escuela de Aprendices Elizalde (E.A.E.), integrated into the Elizalde Factory to implement a ground-breaking professional and human educational model in our country, helped to train hundreds of technical experts and professionals who went on to hold executive positions in major industries related to the automobile world in Spain, such as Montesa, Bultaco and many others. From the outset, the Fundación Elizalde sought to make everyone who participated in this great school a part of this business legacy.

DOCUMENTATION
The Head Offices of the Fundación Elizalde host a huge documentary collection of archives, original catalogues, patents and photographs that recount the history of ELIZALDE and the technological breakthroughs devised by the company during the first half of the 20th century. This collection is available to anyone who is interested._ We also make every effort to include new documents and historical articles through the collaboration of collectors and/or families who had dealings with ELIZALDE, S.A.
